Remove Chips, Cracks and Fix Broken Teeth
|
|
If your teeth are chipped or broken, there are three
options to restore your teeth to its natural beauty:
-
Bonding -
Ideal for smaller chipped or broken area.
Bonding can only be effectively applied to natural
teeth. Doctor can bond almost any tooth that has at
least 2/3 of remaining healthy tooth. Bonding material
is bonded to the tooth wherever the tooth is chipped
or broken. The tooth is cleaned and treated with an
adhesive to which the bonding material attaches to
the tooth. The bonding material replaces the missing
part of the tooth and is tooth colored in appearance.
-
Porcelain
Veneers -
Ideal when a chip or break is too large and
cannot be predictably bonded. The best candidate for
porcelain veneers has consistent and good color natural teeth.
If the surrounding teeth are poor in color, then multiple
porcelain veneers may be required to get the best cosmetic result.
The area where the tooth chipped or broke is smoothed.
The remaining front surface of the tooth is reduced
slightly to accommodate the veneer. When the porcelain veneer
is placed it replaces the missing chipping or broken
area of the tooth. It has the same color and appearance
of a natural tooth.
-
Porcelain
Crowns -
When a tooth is chipped or broken and a veneer
is not strong enough, then a crown is necessary. If
the tooth that is chipped or broken is an existing
crown, then you will need to replace it with a new
crown. The procedure involves reducing the tooth in
order to accommodate a new crown. After it is reduced,
the patient will wear a plastic tooth colored temporary
crown until the permanent crown is ready for cement.
